Job Description
The Registered Nurse (RN) protects, promotes, and optimizes health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, and alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human responses, and through advocacy in the care of individuals and families. The RN is responsible and accountable for compliance with all standards of practice and professional development in accordance with the New York State Nurse Practice Act, United Health Services and Nursing Division policies, ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, the Emergency Nursing Association Scope and Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the Bill of Patient Rights. The RN promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care.
Responsibilities
- Assessing, planning, delegating, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for a group of patients.
- Educating patients and families in health promotion and disease management.
- Administering medications safely according to UHS Hospitals policy.
- Sharing responsibility for productivity and effective resource utilization.
- Complying with all nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and UHS policies.
- Participating in professional development and continuing nursing education.
- Integrating nursing research and current evidence into practice.
- Providing a supportive learning environment for new employees and students.
- Performing duties related to Charge Nurse or Shift Coordinator role when assigned.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- 3 years of current experience working in an Emergency Department.
- Previous traveler experience with knowledge in trauma, STEMI, stroke, sepsis, and pediatric care.
- Current New York State Registered Nurse License.
- BLS Certification (AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross).
- ACLS Certification.
