Job Description
Under the direction of a Radiologist, the Interventional Radiologic Technologist specializes in performing invasive procedures to aid in the evaluation of pathological entities as prescribed by a physician.
Responsibilities
- Explain examination procedures to patients and prepare them for examinations.
- Obtain additional medical history information as necessary.
- Prepare prescribed contrast media, medications, and IV solutions for administration.
- Review clinical data, analyze anatomical structure, set up equipment, and assist Radiologist in complex diagnostic procedures.
- Prepare and set up sterile equipment and monitors required for procedures.
- Assess patient condition before, during, and following procedures.
- Manually control equipment to obtain proper diagnostic images.
- May assist in training new personnel and students.
- Perform imaging procedures while demonstrating principles of radiation protection.
- Resolve image exceptions and ensure high-quality image delivery into PACS.
- Complete all study indexing in the Radiology Information System.
- Perform Quality Assurance procedures as appropriate.
- Utilize independent judgment in determining imaging techniques and safety practices.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Minimum of 2 years of experience with neurological case experience in a comprehensive stroke facility.
- Certification in BLS and registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) with an advanced registry in one of the following:
- Cardiac-Interventional Radiography (CI)
- Vascular-Interventional Radiography (VI)
- Cardiovascular-Interventional Radiography (CV)
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is required.
- Must maintain required hours of continued medical education.
