Job Description

The Registered Nurse in the Medsurg Ortho unit will provide high-quality care to orthopedic patients and general medical-surgical overflow. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and possess the ability to handle high-acuity cases. This role includes working in a unit with a nurse to patient ratio of 1:5, with adjustments for higher acuity patients.

Responsibilities

• Deliver compassionate nursing care to patients undergoing orthopedic procedures and post-operative management.
• Monitor patient conditions, including vital signs and any critical changes.
• Administer medications and manage IV therapies as per protocol, including titration of specific drips, when necessary.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement individualized care plans.
• Assist in transferring patients to the appropriate care unit when needed.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• BLS certification required; ACLS certification preferred for charge nurses.
• Experience in a Level 1 trauma facility with high surgical volumes is essential.
• Comfort with handling lines, chest tubes, and various RT equipment, including CPAP and BiPAP.
• Ability to read telemetry strips, with support from central monitoring staff.
