Job Description

Under the direction of a Radiologist, the Interventional Radiology Technologist specializes in performing invasive procedures to aid in the evaluation of pathological entities as prescribed by a physician.

Responsibilities

• Explain examination procedures to patients and prepare them for examinations.
• Obtain additional information about patients' medical histories as necessary.
• Prepare prescribed contrast media, medications, and IV solutions for administration to patients.
• Review clinical data, analyze anatomical structures, and assist the Radiologist in complex diagnostic invasive procedures.
• Prepare and set up sterile equipment and imaging devices required for procedures.
• Ensure adequate supplies such as needles and catheters are on hand and properly stored.
• Actively assess patients' conditions before, during, and following all procedures.
• Manually control the equipment to obtain appropriate diagnostic information.
• Assist in training new personnel or students assigned to the division.
• Demonstrate principles of radiation protection during procedures.
• Resolve image exceptions and ensure high-quality image delivery into PACS.
• Complete all study indexing in the Radiology Information System (RIS).
• Perform Quality Assurance procedures as appropriate and document all necessary information in medical records.
• Utilize independent judgment in determining imaging techniques, patient positioning, and safety practices.

Required Experience/Certifications/Licensure

• Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience with IR procedures and hands-on scrubbing with physicians.
• Must maintain a Healthcare Provider certification (BLS).
• Must be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) with an advanced registry in Cardiac-Interventional Radiography (CI), Vascular-Interventional Radiography (VI), or Cardiovascular-Interventional Radiography (CV).
