Histotechnician - Day Shift Position

Job Description

The Histotechnician is responsible for processing and preparing various types of tissue samples in a clinical laboratory setting. This position involves utilizing a variety of techniques to ensure high-quality tissue specimens for diagnostic purposes.

Responsibilities

  • Process and prepare surgical and autopsy tissue specimens for embedding, cutting, staining, and cover slipping.
  • Embed and cut specialized tissues based on location, including minute biopsy protocols.
  • Perform quality control checks at each phase of processing and staining.
  • Ensure all tissues are embedded and cut according to departmental protocols, with proper orientation and complete sections.
  • Accurately prepare slides for microtomy using barcode labels to maintain correct patient identification.
  • Demonstrate progression of skills toward independent work in an advanced staining area.
  • Maintain instruments according to quality control specifications and daily maintenance protocols.
  • Support the academic mission of the department.
  • Perform ancillary tasks such as filing, cleaning, and stocking supplies.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

  • Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited HT program within the last 5 years OR an Associate's degree or at least 60 semester hours from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry.
  • 2 years of experience is required.
  • American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Certification preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
  • Act 34 clearance is mandatory.

Schedule

This position operates on a Day Shift schedule of 8 hours per day, 5 days per week.

Assignment Duration

This is a 13-week contract position.
