Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care, offering intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed, within the scope of their professional license and with minimal supervision. The therapist evaluates patients and recommends treatment plans, explaining the purpose and procedures of treatments, tests, and equipment to patients, providing necessary education upon discharge to home.

Responsibilities

• Conducts physician-prescribed treatments, operating various ventilatory equipment, both invasive and non-invasive.
• Administers prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation to patients using oxygen and aerosol devices and nebulizers.
• Performs chest physiotherapy and suctioning by various methods (oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal).
• Monitors oximetry and capnography, and performs routine reviews of patients' chest x-rays for further evaluation needs.
• Completes pulmonary function studies and assists with respiratory care procedures, including bronchoscopy and chest tube placement.
• Performs tracheostomy care and arterial punctures, monitoring and reporting test results.
• Records pertinent information on respiratory care records and patient charts, including pre and post-assessments.
• Communicates with attending and pulmonary physicians regarding therapy efficiency.
• Maintains accurate respiratory therapy charging and assists in equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

Valid respiratory therapy license required. Experience in intensive respiratory care and patient transport preferred.
