Surgical Assistant - 13-Week Contract Position

Job Description

The Surgical Assistant works under the direct supervision of the surgeon, ensuring clinical competence in pre-operative assessment and intraoperative proficiency as a First Assistant. This role requires knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology, operative techniques, and principles of asepsis and infection control.

Responsibilities

• Assist with a variety of surgical specialties efficiently and effectively.
• Actively participate in room turnover and demonstrate proper positioning, draping, and prep procedures.
• Contribute to reducing surgical supply expenses by minimizing waste as measured by audits.
• Follow AORN Standards and Recommended Practices for Infection Prevention.
• Engage in the "Time Out" on all surgical cases prior to incision utilizing the Universal Protocol.

Schedule

Monday to Friday, 0645 to 1515, with call, late, and weekend requirements.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Three (3) years previous experience as a Surgical Assistant (SA).
• Graduate of an accredited program in PA/SA or International Medical Graduate.
• Current CPR certification (BLS AHA) required.
• Experience in orthopedic, neuro/orthopedic spine, general/robotics, urology/gyn, and vascular surgeries is essential.
