PACU Registered Nurse Position

Job Description

This is a 13-week contract position for a PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit) Registered Nurse. The ideal candidate will provide care for patients in pre-op, as well as Phase I and Phase II recovery following surgery. Candidates must demonstrate advanced knowledge of anesthesiology and possess critical care skills for patient assessment and monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Caring for patients post-surgery and ensuring their stability and comfort.
• Assessing incision sites and monitoring vital signs and indicators of complications.
• Demonstrating critical thinking and decision-making skills in a fast-paced environment.
• Utilizing medical equipment such as Meditech, PCA Pumps, and Bair PAWS Warmers.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a critical care RN (ER or ICU may be accepted as a substitute for PACU experience).
• Valid BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association.
• Must hold a valid professional license within the state of practice.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) credential is recommended and may be required for specific positions.
• Additional specialty-related certifications (e.g., NIHSS & TNCC) are preferred.

Schedule

Shifts may vary between 8, 10, and 12 hours and can include Days, Evenings, Nights, and Weekends/Holidays. Candidates should note that there is no guarantee of hours or shift preferences. On-call shifts are expected to be 0-3 times per month (8-hour night shifts and 24-hour shifts on weekends/holidays).
