Radiology Technologist - Mammography
Job Description
The Radiology Technologist is responsible for performing imaging examinations across all patient age groups, ensuring the quality and continuity of patient care. This role involves utilizing specific training in imaging modalities to provide excellent patient care while contributing to the efficient operations of the department.
Responsibilities
- Corroborate patient clinical history with procedures, including follow-up for mammography, lung cancer screenings, and bone density exams.
- Assess patient conditions and ensure safety through proper observation and use of support devices.
- Make decisions regarding imaging evaluations, interact with radiologists and attending physicians, and provide necessary reports.
- Prepare patients for procedures by providing instructions and minimizing anxiety.
- Demonstrate proficiency in using all required imaging equipment and accessories.
- Position patients properly for examinations while ensuring comfort.
- Verify informed consent and assist during procedures, applying aseptic techniques as necessary.
- Evaluate images for technical quality and perform quality assurance and quality control duties.
- Maintain the archival storage of imaging data and assist in transferring images as required.
- Initiate basic life support actions when necessary and provide patient education.
- Participate in the orientation and training of new staff and engage in quality assurance activities.
- Maintain knowledge of universal precautions and engage with colleagues to support superior patient care.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Graduate of an accredited Radiology Technologist program with specialized mammography training preferred.
- Current registration with ARRT (R)(M) or equivalent required.
- Current BLS certification is mandatory.
- Experience in digital mammography and tomosynthesis is required.
- Meets MQSA requirements including 15 breast CEUs within 36 months and 200 mammography exams in 24 months preferred.
- Recent experience in x-ray procedures is preferred.
