Job Description

The Department of Sterile and Materials Processing is a state-of-the-art facility responsible for the decontamination, High Level Disinfection (HLD), assembly, sterilization, and distribution of clean and sterile surgical instruments, trays, and pans. These functions are completed utilizing advanced equipment and tracking systems.

Responsibilities

• Inspects, assembles, packages, and sterilizes surgical instrument pans and trays in accordance with established procedures.
• Operates steam sterilizers, ensuring proper time, pressure, and temperature levels are maintained for effective sterilization.
• Checks and adjusts medical equipment to ensure operational specifications are met before issuing.
• Decontaminates surgical instruments and equipment, preventing cross-contamination per established protocols.
• Receives and stores supplies, maintaining accurate inventory records and fulfilling supply orders for patient care areas.
• Responsible for quality assurance on all sterile supplies, performing daily checks on stock levels and sterility dates.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Certified Sterile Processor (HSPA or CBSPD) required.
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association required.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician required.
• Experience in a large hospital setting (500 beds or more) is required.
• Travel experience as an Sterile Processing Technician for at least 6 months is required.
• Two professional references from the last two assignments are required.
