Central Service Technician – Days
Job Description
The Central Service Technician is responsible for decontamination, cleaning, processing, and sterilization of supplies and equipment. This role requires a conscientious individual capable of handling pressure assignments, clerical tasks, and other duties within the department. Maintaining confidentiality and supporting the mission, vision, and values of the organization is essential.
Responsibilities
- Ensure proper operation of autoclave units prior to use on a daily basis.
- Conduct biological and chemical tests at the beginning of each day shift and record results.
- Inspect gas and steam autoclaves for visible signs of malfunction.
- Process contaminated instruments and supplies returned to Central Service.
- Use knowledge of sterilization principles to correctly wrap or package items.
- Assist with training and in-services for new and long-term employees.
- Apply aseptic techniques in daily work assignments.
- Store supplies and equipment in appropriate locations while caring for instruments and special procedure items.
- Ensure proper assembly, packaging, and preparation of all applicable supplies for sterilization.
- Handle the loading, operation, and cleaning of sterilizers and general equipment.
- Receive and deliver surgical supplies while filling requisition requests.
- Order weekly department supplies as needed.
- Maintain necessary records and documentation related to job functions.
- Stay informed and involved by attending meetings and reading relevant communications.
- Perform all duties in compliance with safety policies.
- Adhere to the Code of Conduct and all appropriate policies and procedures.
- Complete other duties relevant to the position and department as assigned.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Certified CRCST and CER.
- Basic Computer Skills.
- Effective communication with department personnel and other medical staff.
