Job Description

This position is responsible for assessing the needs of each patient before and during a surgical procedure while maintaining patient safety. The RN outlines individual care plans, implements, evaluates, and documents care of patients during surgical procedures. Provides leadership to the OR team and communicates effectively with the patient, family, OR team, supervisors, managers, and ancillary departments. Participates in staff development through preceptorship and continuing education.

Responsibilities

• Assess the needs of the surgical patient and develop a specific plan of care.
• Implement and evaluate the plan of care during the procedure, prioritizing patient safety.
• Supervise activity in the operating room, anticipate schedule changes, and assist anesthesia as needed.
• Monitor the sterile field and coordinate equipment and supply assembly.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, OR team members, and management.
• Participate in staff development opportunities through educational meetings and seminars.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• At least 2 years of RN Operating Room experience - Required
• Level 2 Trauma Experience - Required
• Proficient in Orthopedic, Vascular, Neuro, General/Gynecological, and Urology procedures - Required
• Recent travel work experience - Highly Preferred
• Active American Heart Association BLS certification - Required
• Active Michigan RN License - Required
