Job Description
The Director of Nursing (DON) for a Skilled Nursing and Long Term Care Facility is responsible for coordinating and facilitating nursing care activities to improve continuity of care. This role involves assisting in developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure nursing services meet Federal and State regulatory requirements. The DON contributes to staff education to ensure competency and provides consultative direction and expertise in all areas of nursing services.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and vision to the nursing department, developing and maintaining objectives and standards of nursing practice.
- Oversee the nursing staff, including hiring, training, evaluation, and delegation of duties.
- Act as a patient advocate and resource for patients, families, and interdisciplinary staff.
- Complete, evaluate, and report monthly quality data, including falls and chart compliance.
- Coordinate nursing services with other resident services to ensure a cohesive approach to care.
- Monitor and enforce proper infection control practices.
- Generate input into the budget process and maintain expense records.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- BSN required upon hire.
- 2-4 years of supervisory experience in long-term care nursing or demonstrated leadership in a similar setting.
- Knowledge of reimbursement systems and State and Federal Regulations within Long Term Care.
- RN license in state of practice.
- CPR certification required within 90 days of hire.
